The defensive construction of OM: Benatia relies on Alexsandro as plan B

The defense of OM remains a work in progress and Benatia doesn't give up: if Ordonez is the priority, Alexsandro stands out as a solid plan B. Should we bet on him?

The central defense remains the major issue for our OM during this transfer window. Mehdi Benatia has said and repeated it, he wants solid reinforcements for the backline, and he's not letting it go. But what to think of this new prospect Alexsandro, the Brazilian from LOSC, who is making his way onto the shortlist in case of trouble with Ordonez?

Alexsandro: a profile that ticks a lot of boxes

At 26, Alexsandro has established himself as a true pillar in Lille since his arrival in 2022. We're talking about a guy who already has 80 Ligue 1 matches under his belt, plus a good ten in the Champions League. That's not nothing, especially when you're looking for experience and reliability, right?

Another important point: he is under contract until 2028, so there's no question of having him on the cheap. His value is around 15 million euros, but with LOSC, we know it can quickly climb, especially if other foreign clubs join the fray. So, can you see Benatia putting that much on the table for a defender, or is it too risky with our finances?

A Plan B that looks just like a Plan A?

Let's be honest, Joël Ordonez remains the club's main priority. But between the demands of Club Brugge and the unpredictable market, a credible backup is needed, and here, Alexsandro has strong arguments. A left-footed central defender (which we lack), sturdy in duels, clean in relaunching, and already called up by Brazil, he clearly has the profile to establish himself in our defensive line.

We also can't ignore the adaptation factor: a Ligue 1 player, already accustomed to the top level, would represent less risk than a bet on an unknown youngster or a defender coming from another continent. What do you think? Should we prioritize security with Alexsandro, or take a chance on Ordonez who might be more promising long-term?

Cost, urgency, and Benatia's strategy: let's debate!

As we know, OM's finances are not unlimited. Investing 15 to 20 million in a defender is a strong choice: it means less money to spend on other positions this summer. But can we really afford another difficult season in defense? Is Benatia playing it safe or taking a calculated risk?

So, friends, tell us everything: would you go for Alexsandro, or would you prefer to push all the way for Ordonez? Do you trust Benatia to sniff out the right deal? Share your opinions in the comments, we want to debate with you like we’re at the Vélodrome counter!
