Olympique de Marseille continues its discussions with Club Bruges to try to recruit Joel Ordóñez. According to Ecuadorian journalist Rogelio Arosemena, negotiations are progressing between the two clubs, while the central defender has returned to the Belgian squad called up for the Champions League qualifying round. Despite his presence, he is not expected to be fielded.

Joel Ordóñez's profile: a good find?

Aged 21, the Ecuadorian international wants to leave Bruges to take a step forward in his career. OM considers him a priority target in this transfer window, due to the fragility shown by its defensive sector since the beginning of the season. The matter has become urgent for the Marseille club, which is looking for reinforcement capable of providing solidity and forward projection in the center. Strong, able to restart cleanly, and very comfortable in duels, he has enough to reassure a defense that has been navigating blindly since August.

A 34 million euro transfer: madness or strategic investment?

Club Bruges has set its demands: approximately 40 million dollars (34 M€) to release its player. A significant sum, but one that reflects the value attributed to the young defender, already followed by several European clubs. Meanwhile, on the Marseille side, sporting director Mehdi Benatia has confirmed the club's desire to quickly conclude the operation. The Marseille official believes that the defensive urgency justifies a substantial investment at this point in the market.

Ordóñez, an urgency before the end of the transfer window?

While the Marseille club remains defensively fragile, the case of Joel Ordóñez stands out as one of the major stakes at the end of the transfer window. For his part, the player is determined to change air, and the Marseille option seems the most serious. There is little time left before the end of the transfer window, so the outcome of this case will now depend on OM's ability to reach a financial agreement with Bruges in the final days of the market.
