Friends, if you're closely following the transfer market rumors, it's impossible that you missed the latest hot news regarding our Argentine defender. Yes, Leonardo Balerdi, our captain and true pillar of the Marseille defense, is making big European clubs salivate. Newcastle United and Juventus Turin are on the case, but is it really the right time for OM to let go of its mainstay? Let's break it all down together.

Newcastle ready to strike: good idea for them, good deal for us?

On one hand, we have Newcastle, which seriously wants to rejuvenate its central defense: Fabian Schär and Dan Burn are clearly nearing the end. The Magpies are eyeing Balerdi as a reliable and, above all, more "affordable" solution than profiles like Scalvini or Guehi, who are rumored to be over 60 million. So, a good deal for them? Maybe… But for us?

Frankly, unless there’s an XXL offer (we're talking at least 35 million euros, according to the latest info), OM doesn't plan to sell. Let’s remember we recruited him in 2020 for 11 million. Sportingly and financially, it's debatable: if we receive a big check, we can invest elsewhere, but can we find a new leader in defense so quickly? I doubt it, and you?

Juventus enters the fray: a Tudor move?

On the other side, Juventus Turin is joining the debate. You know, Igor Tudor knows the Marseille house and especially Balerdi, whom he helped progress right here. This connection could clearly tip the balance if Juve puts in the effort. Their project? Betting on young players who already have experience, just like Léo.

But does the Argentine have an interest in starting over in Turin, when he’s just gotten the captain’s armband in Marseille? It's worth asking the question. One thing is certain: this Tudor-Juve-Balerdi chapter is bound to stir up the transfer market in the coming days.

OM sets its conditions: what risks, what opportunities?

Let’s be clear: Pablo Longoria and the management are uncompromising. Balerdi has become THE leader of our defense and the locker room. We won’t let him go for peanuts. 35 million minimum, or nothing. But you know, English clubs have deep pockets… So, are we taking the risk of losing our captain, or are we ensuring defensive stability for the next season?

Sportingly, the departure of Balerdi would be a real blow, especially given his consistency and transformation (who would have thought at the start he’d end up being applauded?). Financially, it could allow us to strengthen several positions, but at what cost to the team's solidity?

And you, friends, what do you think?

So, should we sell Balerdi if an offer over 35 million comes in? Who would replace him if it happens? Do we keep our captain or trust Longoria to find a new leader? Tell us everything in the comments: the discussion is open, and, as always, it’s together that we keep our OM alive!
