Marseille transfer window: Florentino Luis, the perfect signing in midfield?
Florentino Luis targeted by Marseille! Talks with Benfica over a loan with an option to buy. Ceballos too expensive, Rabiot uncertain: Luis becomes the top midfield priority.
We all know it: our OM is desperately looking to strengthen the midfield. After the win over Paris FC (5-2) and an electric week marked by the Rabiot saga, the management wants to give De Zerbi what he’s missing: a true ball-winner, capable of protecting the defense and balancing the game. And now the name Florentino Luis pops up.
Fabrizio Romano drops the bomb
According to the very reliable Fabrizio Romano, Pablo Longoria and Mehdi Benatia have already approached Benfica for a loan with an obligation to buy. The goal? Bring in a solid, intelligent profile without blowing the budget this summer. Talks are underway, nothing is signed, but the interest is real. At 26, the Portuguese has experience of big European nights and the ability to make an immediate impact.

No agreement so far with Real Madrid for Dani Ceballos as request around €15m is considered too high. #OM #TeamOM pic.twitter.com/mwipiegDRV— Fabrizio Romano (@FabrizioRomano) August 26, 2025
Why does Florentino fit OM?
Trained in Lisbon, Florentino Luis is the kind of player every coach loves to have: tireless in ball recovery, disciplined, but also able to play the right pass forward. In De Zerbi’s system, he can be that “guard dog” in front of the defense, and allow Gomes, Paixão or Greenwood to shine higher up. Admit it, that’s tempting, isn’t it?
Ceballos too expensive, Rabiot uncertain…
Meanwhile, the Dani Ceballos deal is stalling. Real Madrid are asking for €15m, and Xabi Alonso is blocking a loan. Too heavy for our immediate finances. As for Adrien Rabiot, despite a door left ajar by De Zerbi, tensions with the management are slowing any hope of a quick reintegration. Result: Florentino Luis becomes a priority, because he matches exactly what’s needed right now.
End of the window under pressure
There’s one week left, no more. And while the Ceballos deal seems frozen, Florentino’s could well speed up. It all depends on OM’s ability to convince Benfica and the player’s willingness. But one thing is certain: we’re already dreaming of that midfielder at the Vélodrome.
So, folks, what do you think? Florentino Luis, is he the “6” who can transform our season? Should we go all-in now, or wait for a different profile? Your thoughts in the comments—we want to debate with you!
