OM Transfer Market: Midfield a Top Priority and Absolute Emergency!
After the Ceballos failure, Rongier’s departure, Bennacer’s return to Milan, and the Rabiot saga, OM’s midfield is weakened. Longoria must act fast to arm De Zerbi.
Let’s say it clearly: OM is in danger at the heart of the pitch
With just days left before the transfer window closes, Marseille’s midfield—the backbone of any ambitious project—has collapsed in a matter of weeks. Rongier left for Rennes, Bennacer returned to Milan, Rabiot imploded… and the Dani Ceballos failure was the final blow. The result: De Zerbi’s squad looks far too fragile to live up to its European ambitions.
Angel Gomes, the lone survivor… but not enough
Signed on a free early in the summer, Angel Gomes is an interesting addition—technical, versatile, and clearly appreciated by De Zerbi. But let’s be honest: he can’t replace three pillars on his own. Kondogbia remains too often sidelined by injuries, while youngsters Nadir and Bakola show promise but aren’t ready to anchor OM in Ligue 1 or the Champions League. We already see it on the pitch: the midfield lacks both stability and creativity.
A failed mercato in midfield?
The collapse of the Ceballos deal was a hammer blow. Everything was lined up with Real Madrid… then the Spaniard walked away. Longoria and Benatia slammed the door, unwilling to waste time. But that decision only highlights the urgency of the situation. OM has been burned before (remember Agoumé?), and it’s obvious: the club needs players who are 100% committed—and it needs them fast.
Longoria under pressure, De Zerbi waiting for his weapons
We all know De Zerbi’s system relies heavily on midfielders. He needs players who can build cleanly from the back, dictate tempo, shield the defense, and drive play forward. Right now, OM has none of that. Without a strong midfield, it’s impossible to build a season worthy of European ambitions. And come Monday, September 1 at 8 p.m., the window will be shut.
