OM Transfer Market: Romano reignites the Ordóñez saga… but this time for Inter!

Joel Ordóñez was a hot target for OM this summer. Blocked by Bruges, the Ecuadorian defender now has Inter Milan entering the race. A bitter blow for Marseille, who spotted him early.

Marseille’s failed pursuit of Ordóñez

Everything was in place for the 20-year-old defender to head to the Canebière. Coming off a solid season in the Jupiler Pro League, his profile matched Roberto De Zerbi’s needs perfectly. But Club Brugge slammed the door shut: there was no question of selling their Ecuador international on the cheap. Despite Pablo Longoria’s persistence, the deal bogged down and OM ultimately wrapped up the transfer window by bringing in the more experienced Nayef Aguerd and Benjamin Pavard.

Inter Milan enters the fray

Just when it seemed the saga was over, Fabrizio Romano rekindled the flame: “Joel Ordóñez has been added to Inter’s list for 2026,” revealed the most plugged-in transfer journalist in the game. Already courted this summer by OM and Al Hilal, the Club Brugge defender is now being closely monitored by the Nerazzurri—proof that his stock is skyrocketing on the European market.

A bitter pill for OM

For Marseille, the verdict is harsh. The club had read it right but couldn’t find a way to convince Club Brugge. If Ordóñez continues his progression and signs for a heavyweight like Inter, OM fans may be left with a few regrets. Missing out on such a talent at 20, while he was still within reach, could well be seen as a missed opportunity.
