After the storm, OM and PSG clash… over the date of the Classic

Between unpredictable weather, LFP regulations, and an overloaded schedule, rescheduling the Classique is already turning into a real headache.

A postponement that opens a new battle

The storm that hit Marseille on Sunday evening not only swept away hopes of a fiery Vélodrome for the Classique. It also opened a new chapter in the tug-of-war between OM, the LFP, the broadcaster, and PSG. The cancellation of the match for safety reasons was inevitable. But less than 24 hours later, the burning question is now: when will this major clash of the championship be replayed?

OM demands an immediate solution

According to our information, Olympique de Marseille sent an official letter to the League, the broadcaster, and PSG. The objective: to enforce the regulations stipulating that a match interrupted or canceled due to exceptional circumstances must be replayed the following day, if it is materially possible.

The Marseille club is therefore demanding that the match be played this Monday evening at 8pm.

In this letter, OM states that no other date will be proposed on its part, considering that there is only one logical and fair solution: to play immediately so as not to distort the rest of the schedule.

Mixed reactions from the stakeholders

The broadcaster, which holds the rights to this flagship Ligue 1 matchup, is said to be in favor of this urgent rescheduling. The LFP, for its part, has simply acknowledged receipt of the letter, without committing for the time being. PSG remains silent, having so far given no response. A wait that is causing tension, as the decision must come in the very next few hours.

The scheduling headache

If the match were to be rescheduled this Monday at 8pm, it would directly clash with… the Ballon d’Or ceremony. An unprecedented media collision that could frustrate some international broadcasters.

But in Marseille, that argument is dismissed: “The regulations must take precedence over any other consideration,” says someone close to the club. The belief is clear: delaying this Classique means creating a dangerous precedent in an already packed season, between Ligue 1 and the Champions League.

A decision under high tension

OM is pushing hard to enforce the rule. PSG is stalling, likely preoccupied with managing its injured players and squad fatigue. The LFP, acting as referee in this duel, now faces a difficult choice: respect the letter of the regulations or prioritize media and diplomatic stakes.

In any case, this postponed Classique has already sparked controversy, even before a ball has been kicked. The weather may have triggered the storm, but it is the negotiating table that is now on fire.
