The central defense project: where does OM stand?
Our defense has often been a topic of conversation this season, and the OM management does not plan to sit idly by this summer. Because even if Nayef Aguerd remains THE priority for Pablo Longoria and Medhi Benatia, that doesn't mean the club is putting all its eggs in one basket. What do you think? Should we go all out for Aguerd no matter what or stay on the lookout for good deals?
Nayef Aguerd: an ambitious target, but at what price?
For those who missed it, Aguerd is coming off a solid loan at Real Sociedad (36 matches across all competitions), and even though West Ham doesn't close the door on him, he remains under contract until 2027. Needless to say, he won't leave for peanuts... Is it worth going all-in on a player who, at 29, could bring experience, but whose future remains uncertain on the English side? There is undoubtedly a financial risk for OM, especially if competition gets involved. Tell us in the comments if you'd be ready to break the bank!
Plan B options: Laporte, Ndicka, Veiga... Credible alternatives?
Let's not kid ourselves, seeing names like Aymeric Laporte (still being followed despite rumors of abandonment), Evan Ndicka (who shone at Roma), and the young Renato Veiga (Chelsea) on the shortlist is enough to make you dream. And then, we feel De Zerbi has validated the profiles, so these aren't random picks. But let's be realistic: these guys all have a cost, whether in salary or transfer fee. Who do you imagine wearing the OM jersey next year? Who do you think is the most compatible with our game?
Strategic choices that shape the club's future
We can't just think in "star power" mode, my friends. The arrival of a central defender this summer is also a message sent to the locker room leaders and our young prospects. Should we look for an established leader even if it slows the progress of a young talent from the academy? Or bet on a more "future-oriented" profile? Give us your opinion, it's time to debate!
Over to you: which defender for OM?
To sum up, our OM has several options at hand and we feel that the upcoming weeks will be decisive. Aguerd, Laporte, Ndicka, Veiga... or a surprise from out of the blue? Tell us in the comments who you want to see land at the Vélodrome and why! We'll catch up soon to follow this hot transfer market issue. Go OM!
