Mercato OM: Maupay, will Lens make a last-minute move?

With just 48 hours left in the transfer window, Neal Maupay’s case remains unresolved. The 29-year-old striker, on loan from Everton last winter, is still at OM… but his future could be written elsewhere.

According to FootMercato, RC Lens have revived interest in Maupay in the last few hours. Nothing concrete for now, but his profile is appreciated internally: an experienced player, capable of bolstering a Lens attack in search of solutions. First mentioned in June, Maupay’s name is resurfacing just as the Blood and Gold are also exploring other options such as Simon Banza or Odsonne Édouard.

Maupay, an uncertain future at OM

On the Marseille side, the situation is clear: if an offer comes in, the club will not stand in the way of his departure. Neal Maupay, now fourth in the pecking order behind Aubameyang, Gouiri and the young Vaz, lacks prospects for playing time. After a mixed season on the Canebière, he could be tempted by a new challenge… especially at an ambitious French club like Lens.

A tense end to the transfer window

For Pablo Longoria and Mehdi Benatia, offloading Maupay would also be a way to free up space and resources to finalize the expected reinforcements in defense and midfield. After Ordóñez, Aguerd and Vermeeren, OM continues to build a team tailored for the Champions League. The Maupay situation therefore follows a clear logic: turn the page on the out-of-favour players and give themselves the means to move forward.

Team OM, what do you think? Is a move to Lens the right solution for Maupay… and for OM?
