OM 5-2 Paris FC: the Aubameyang show, Nadir the revelation — Marseille roars, but the defense is cause for concern
OM 5-2 Paris FC: Aubameyang imperious, Nadir changes everything, Vaz caps the show. Goal fest at the Vélodrome… but at the back, it’s still shaky.
The Vélodrome rocked just the way we like it. OM thrashed Paris FC 5-2, driven by individual brilliance, but let’s be honest: the night also exposed our flaws. Between the rush of goals and the defensive scares, this match perfectly sums up our De Zerbi-era OM.
Aubameyang, ever the boss
What a game from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang! A brace, intelligent movement, charisma, and that acrobatic overhead kick that brought the whole stadium to its feet. At 36, he plays like a hungry kid. Technical leader, moral leader: without him, this game wouldn’t have looked the same. Respect.
Greenwood and Nadir, two sparks
Greenwood keeps playing the firestarter. He scored from the spot, brought movement and penetration, despite missing a late penalty. As for Bilal Nadir… what an entrance! The kid changed the tempo, won balls back, pressed like crazy, and laid on a peach of an assist for Auba’s 3-2. His impact transformed the game. You can’t help but dream: what if this is the real turning point of his career?
Vaz seals the show
Let’s not forget Robinio Vaz, who won a late penalty, saw Greenwood miss… but took matters into his own hands in stoppage time with a splendid goal. The Vélodrome erupted. The youngsters dare, and it’s a joy to see.
But at the back… it’s still panic
Let’s be frank: defensively, it’s still just as fragile. Balerdi getting caught in behind, Garcia late, Egan-Riley uneasy… and Rulli often left on his own. Paris FC, a newly promoted side without big stars, put two past us and could have scored more. Against Ligue 1 or European heavyweights, that won’t fly.
A team still under construction
Yes, we won, yes, we had a blast, but we know it: far too much still rests on individual exploits. De Zerbi needs to build patterns, especially in defensive transitions. We won’t go far conceding two goals a game. The transfer window isn’t over, and this match is a stark reminder of what we need at the back.
The Vélodrome wants to thrill, not tremble
This win gets the engine running again and does wonders for morale, but it doesn’t fix everything. Offensively, we can hurt anyone. Defensively, we’re still vulnerable. And that’s our Marseille paradox: capable of scoring 5, but also giving ourselves the worst scares.
Over to you, supporters: what did you make of Nadir? Can Auba carry that leadership role all season? And above all, should we recruit at the back or trust the youngsters? Come and debate: we build OM together.
