OM – Adrien Rabiot: forgotten deal, tensions rekindled… what will Marseille decide?
Agreement struck until 2027, then torn up; a split dressing room; a transfer window on fire: should OM bank on a reconciled Rabiot or move on?
We thought we had the plot figured out: after the altercation with Rowe, Rabiot was being pushed out. Then, plot twist: L’Équipe revealed that a deal had indeed been reached earlier this summer. An extension through 2027, with an exit route as early as 2026 in the event of a big offer. A smart compromise that could have stabilized Marseille’s midfield. But today everything is frozen, and the case looks more than ever like a minefield.
A deal swept away in the storm
The Rabiot–Longoria–Benatia deal seemed solid: one more year, flexibility in case an opportunity arose, and everyone satisfied. But since the “Rowe affair” and the media war launched by Véronique Rabiot, the climate has turned sharply colder. Negotiations have broken off, trust has cracked. An extension slipping through the fingers leaves a bitter taste, especially when the team lacks structure in midfield.
The dressing room ready to welcome him, but…
Paradox: despite the controversy, Rabiot is still appreciated. In the dressing room, many want him back. Even De Zerbi surprised everyone by publicly extending an olive branch: “Adrien is a good lad, I hope there will be reconciliation.” The coach is counting on his experience. But at what price? Bringing Rabiot back means risking reigniting tensions, setting the institution ablaze once again. Is it worth it?
Transfer market, finances and ambition: the real headache
On the pitch, a peak-form Rabiot is a weapon. Financially, he’s a burden: big wages, uncertainty about the future, risk of a premature departure. With eight days left in the window, the dilemma is total: sell now to a Champions League club, or keep a player with a bruised ego who could still be key this season?
So, what do we do?
Time is running out. In September, barring a U-turn, Rabiot will still be an OM player. But in what frame of mind? Should we turn the page, or go all-in on a winning return for 2025–2026?
