OM: Aubameyang, the Love Story Continues at the Vélodrome

Aubameyang is back, scoring twice and leading the way: a special bond with Longoria and a second Marseille chapter full of promise.

What a thrill Saturday night at the Vélodrome! 447 days after his last match in our colors, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored twice against Paris FC, celebrating with his trademark somersault. The stadium roared just like in 2023–24, proof that the flame between him and Marseille never stopped burning.

A First Spell Full of Ups and Downs

Remember: when he arrived from Chelsea in 2023, Aubameyang had a tough start—Champions League elimination, a carousel of coaches, an impatient crowd. But he fought back and became indispensable, ending as OM’s most-used outfield player and top scorer since Didier Drogba. As Gigot recalls: “He had an incredible killer instinct, always working, always finishing… always cadré, cadré, cadré.”

The Saudi Detour, Then Back to the Heart

In 2024, lured by Al-Qadisiyya’s offer, he tried the Saudi adventure. Twenty-one goals in 36 matches, but his departure was marked by a gentleman’s agreement with Longoria. A close source explains: “Auba was special for Pablo.” Even across the Gulf, Marseille never left his mind. So when the chance came in summer 2025, he followed his heart—accepting lower wages just to return to the Vélodrome and Roberto De Zerbi’s project.

A New Chapter Under De Zerbi

At 36, Aubameyang is not here for a swan song. Surrounded by fresh recruits (Paixão, Weah, Greenwood, Nadir) and guided by Roberto De Zerbi, he is part of an ambitious collective. His experience and unquenched hunger could push OM into Champions League heights. As Ghislain Printant puts it: “He still has a hunger for football, and maybe a sense of unfinished business with OM.”

A Leader Who Steps Up

This comeback is more than symbolic: a week before his brace, Auba faced the press after the Rennes defeat, owning responsibility like a true leader. Now, he’s more than a striker—he’s a guide, a reference, a symbol.
