A scare but nothing serious for Weah

The night in the U.S. had raised fears of the worst. Lined up against South Korea, Timothy Weah had to leave his teammates around the hour mark, apparently with a knock to his right leg. With 10 days to go before the Classico and on the eve of a packed schedule, the scare was enough to set the Vélodrome on edge.

Initial diagnosis: muscle discomfort, quickly interpreted by Mauricio Pochettino as simple cramps. And those around him are adamant: no serious injury. Weah is even said to be ready to resume already, the brief setback being only the consequence of a rushed preparation after his transfer from Juventus.

OM already under pressure

In a context where Paris have lost Ousmane Dembélé and Désiré Doué in quick succession, the news had taken on added significance. Seeing OM deprived of one of its attacking assets before the start of the Champions League would have been a serious blow. In the end, Marseille come away with a fright and a reminder: the schedule will be unforgiving and every player will need to be managed.

Timing of the big fixtures

Barely back from international duty, Timothy Weah should therefore go straight into a run: Lorient in Ligue 1, the trip to the Bernabéu to face Real Madrid, then the Classico at the Vélodrome. All fixtures where his versatility and energy will be invaluable.

The Marseille faithful, who held their breath for a few hours, can breathe easy: their new American player is very much here to face the storms ahead.
