OM Transfer Market: Pavard — madness or a real option?

Pavard to Marseille? A 29-year-old world champion, experienced and versatile. A pipe dream or a real coup to shore up Marseille's defense?

Reporter

Imagine it for a moment: Benjamin Pavard in an OM shirt, at the Vélodrome, under De Zerbi. That’s the word going around, and we can tell you it would set the OM world buzzing. World champion in 2018, stints at Bayern and now at Inter—Pavard’s seen it all. At 29, he’s still solid, versatile (right-sided center-back or right-back), and above all used to the big occasions. In short, exactly what we’re missing at the back.

A tricky deal but not impossible

Let’s be clear: this wouldn’t be easy. Pavard is coming off a big transfer, his wages are huge, and his value remains high. On paper, it’s a massive project for OM. But watch out: according to La Provence, the player could be tempted by the Marseille project. The prospect of playing the Champions League in a Vélodrome on fire carries weight. So, fans’ dream or a real project for Longoria and Benatia?

Ordóñez remains the priority… for now

Let’s not forget the number-one priority is still Joel Ordóñez, the young Ecuadorian defender from Club Brugge. Promising and financially attainable, he fits the long-term build. But OM are keeping an eye on Pavard in case an opportunity arises. Because let’s be honest: pulling off Pavard would send a strong message to all of Europe.

Over to you, Team OM!

So, what do you think? Should Longoria go all-in for Pavard, even if it means breaking the bank to shore up our defense? Or should we stick to the young-and-promising strategy with Ordóñez? We’re waiting for your takes and debates in the comments.
