A reasonable, yet ambitious market: OM on the podium of big-spending clubs in Ligue 1
With 34 million euros invested this summer, our OM climbs to the 3rd place of the biggest spending clubs in Ligue 1, just behind Strasbourg (80 M€!) and Paris FC (35 M€). On paper, it looks impressive, but when you look closer, it's mostly smart management from the leadership. No “bling-bling” purchases like in Paris, no, but mostly purchase options exercised for players we already know well. What do you think?
Targeted and Thoughtful Investments
Let's be honest: the largest part of the budget was used to keep our safe bets. Jonathan Rowe (14.5 M€), Pierre-Emile Højbjerg (13.5 M€) and Neal Maupay (4 M€) stay home for good after their convincing loans. Honestly, who would have wanted to let them go? Add to that the loan with a fee of Facundo Medina (2 M€) to strengthen the defense, to make up for the many departures this summer. Less flashy, maybe, but so important for the team's stability.
On the side, we also brought some fresh blood without breaking the bank, with the free arrivals of Gomes and Egan-Riley. Benatia and Longoria didn't give in to the pressure of a major overhaul. It's a bet on continuity, do you agree with this strategy? Come debate in the comments!
Other French Clubs in “All-in” Mode
When we see Strasbourg spending 80 million (thanks to BlueCo and Chelsea's money printing machine), we wonder if the competition hasn't lost their minds! With the big checks for Panichelli, Amougou, or Barco, they want to change dimension all at once. Paris FC, too, brings in Otavio and Moses Simon to make a splash in the elite. But in the end, who manages best? Because financially, OM shows a positive balance of 12.9 M€, against -35 M€ for Paris and -29.3 M€ for Strasbourg. Shall we talk about Marseille's prudence?
Continuity or Lack of Ambition?
So, friends, will OM's strategy, favoring stability, be enough to meet our ambitions? No revolution, but locking down our key players and minimizing financial risk… Some will say that one or two “top-level” recruits are still missing to aim higher. Others will appreciate not putting the club in danger for a gamble. What reassures you more? Healthy management or the promise of glitz?
