Laporte, it's (already) over: OM turns the page
Friends, here’s a lead that’s taking off: Aymeric Laporte will not be joining OM after all. We believed it, admit it! Medhi Benatia and the Olympian management had sniffed out a good deal: an experienced defender, possibly free, perfect for strengthening our defense without straining the finances. But Al-Nassr decided otherwise, and the Laporte deal to Marseille is already a thing of the past.
A Saudi U-turn changes everything
Did you follow the story? Initially, the door seemed wide open: a possible amicable contract termination between Laporte and Al-Nassr, and our OM ready to welcome him without a transfer fee. A dream, right? But the Saudi leaders quickly changed their plans: they now demand 15 million euros to release their defender. Honestly, for a 31-year-old player, who just had a mediocre season in the Saudi Pro League, what do you think? Is it worth it to spend so much, especially in our situation?
From the financial side, we understand that Benatia hesitated. 15 million on Laporte is as much as is not spent on younger profiles, or several reinforcements. We all want an ambitious OM, but not at any cost. Would you have taken the risk, or do you prefer caution?
Time for new faces… and a different strategy
The staff didn’t waste time bouncing back, and we can’t complain about that. CJ Egan-Riley arrives free from Burnley, and Facundo Medina arrives from Lens on loan with an option to buy. Younger, more affordable, already seasoned in Ligue 1 for Medina... It might be more in line with our project, right? There’s a real desire to rejuvenate the squad and avoid financial risks.
Does this direction in the transfer market reassure you? Would you have preferred Laporte for the experience, or are these new options more appealing to you? We want your opinions in the comments!
Laporte, heading to Bilbao?
For Laporte, everything suggests he’ll make a comeback to Athletic Bilbao, the club where he grew up. A return to his roots makes sense for him, especially after a mixed adventure in Saudi Arabia. It might not be the deal of the century for OM, but perhaps a beautiful story for the player.
The transfer market is like a soap opera… and we’re living it together!
We all know it, rumors come and go, plans change overnight. That’s the magic (and madness) of the transfer market. Our priority is to keep you informed, even when the information contradicts itself. Keep reacting, debating, and sharing your feelings: by standing united, we keep our beloved club alive, no matter the twists!
