A Departure Announced

At 27, Amine Harit is preparing to leave Olympique de Marseille to join Istanbul Başakşehir. The Moroccan attacking midfielder (24 caps, 1 goal) will be loaned with an option to buy, an agreement already finalized and set to be made official very soon.

Arriving at OM in 2021, first on loan before being permanently transferred the following year, Harit has experienced ups and downs in the Marseille shirt. Last season, he played 13 matches in all competitions, scoring 2 goals and providing 4 assists. But the arrival of Roberto De Zerbi reshuffled the hierarchy, and Harit gradually slid into a secondary role.

A Sacrificed Player

Like others (Ruben Blanco, Ulisses Garcia, Pol Lirola, or Neal Maupay), Harit was not included on OM’s Champions League squad list. A strong signal: he was among those encouraged to leave in order to lighten the squad. The Marseille club, involved on several fronts, chose to rely on other profiles.

A Fresh Start Awaiting in Turkey

Harit was targeted this summer by the Saudi club Al-Diraiyah, managed by Sabri Lamouchi. Ultimately, it’s in the Turkish Super Lig that he will look to revive his career, with Başakşehir. This choice gives him a chance to regain regular playing time, a crucial factor in winning back the trust of his national team coach and hoping to compete in the 2026 World Cup with Morocco.

The Farewell of an Inconsistent Talent

For many, Amine Harit will be remembered as a technical player, elegant on the ball, capable of flashes of brilliance but too rarely decisive over time. In Marseille, he will leave behind memories of dazzling moments, but also of a promise never fully kept.

His departure marks the end of a cycle and confirms OM’s intent to reshape its squad around more consistent profiles adapted to De Zerbi’s project.
