OM: Faris Moumbagna packs his bags, heading to Cremonese

Moumbagna leaves OM: loan with a €300k fee and a €7 million option to buy. A brief Marseille stint, cut short by injuries.

Some stories never really get started... and that’s the case with Faris Moumbagna at Olympique de Marseille. Arriving in January 2024 from Bodø/Glimt to compete with Aubameyang and Vitinha, the 25-year-old Cameroonian striker saw his adventure cut short on the opening day with a torn ACL. A brutal injury that kept him off the pitch all season.

Moumbagna, a whirlwind stint on the Canebière

When you know how demanding OM and its fans are, you know patience is in short supply. And this summer, the management made the call: there was no longer a place for him in De Zerbi’s project. After ushering senior players out the door, it was clear the fringe players wouldn’t be spared either.

Heading to Serie A for a fresh start

As reported by Sky Italia, Moumbagna is joining Cremonese, newly promoted to Serie A. The deal: a paid loan of €300,000, with a purchase option set at €7m. A solid bit of business for OM, who are continuing their big clear-out, and an opportunity for the player to relaunch.

A logical choice for OM?

In Marseille, we’ll remember his smile, his determination... but not enough goals, not enough games. At Cremonese, he’ll have the chance to write a new story, far from the Vélodrome’s shadow. They’ve started strong: a win over AC Milan on the opening day. An ideal environment for a striker looking to revive his career.

Good luck, Faris, and respect: you never gave up despite the setbacks. OM, sometimes cruel but always passionate, sends you off with one last “safe travels.”

And you, what do you think?

So, friends, are we right to move on from Moumbagna so quickly? Is this a good move from the club’s management, or should he have been given a genuine second chance after his injury?
