Friends, things are already moving in the summer preparation of our OM! We knew it, the upcoming season promises to be huge with our qualification for the Champions League and ambitions that make everyone dream. But to be ready for the Ligue 1 kick-off in mid-August, we need to adjust the plans, and that's already happening with the schedule for friendly matches.

AirCup Modification: Bye bye Al Jazira, hello Girona

A little surprise in the schedule: while we were supposed to face Al Jazira Club in the AirCup 2025 tournament, the Emiratis have eventually withdrawn. As a result, Roberto De Zerbi and his men will play against Girona on July 26 at 8 PM, at the Nou Estadi in Andorra. Honestly, what do you think? For me, it's definitely a nice turn of events! Girona is not at all the same lemonade: a Spanish club, solid in La Liga, and a team that plays very well. It will clearly raise the level of preparation for our Olympiens.

A Tougher Test Before Ligue 1 and C1

Let's not kid ourselves: facing Girona is perhaps more risky sportingly than a match against Al Jazira, but it's also much more formative. This kind of confrontation, a few weeks before the start of the season and the Champions League, is ideal for evaluating our squad and seeing if the new recruits (and the key players!) are already up to the task. And then, playing Valencia three days later in Tarragona, it's like a real Spanish training camp, isn’t it? Who would argue it's not the best way to work on cohesion and manage intensity?

Sporting Challenges, but Also Financial Ones

You understand, friendly matches aren't just football between friends. Well-negotiated, these tests can also bring in a lot for the club, especially against recognized opponents in Europe. In terms of image, playing against two Spanish clubs during preparation, it strengthens our credibility, especially with sponsors and future recruits. But be careful, we must manage the squad intelligently to avoid silly injuries, especially with a season that promises to be a marathon. In your opinion, will De Zerbi bet everything on ramping up or play the prudence card? Tell us in the comments!
