OM: Bennacer, the deadlock revealed by Fabrizio Romano
Despite his promising loan at OM, Ismaël Bennacer did not return to the Vélodrome this summer. Stuck at Milan and rejecting Turkey, the Algerian international now finds himself in a difficult spot.
A hoped-for return… but it fell through
From January to June 2025, Bennacer found a second wind in a Marseille shirt. His technique, work rate, and fighting spirit won over part of the Marseille faithful. But despite a purchase option set at €12 million, OM did not trigger it. The club’s hierarchy prioritized other targets, and the 27-year-old midfielder returned to AC Milan with no real prospects.
Milan have lost faith
Across the Alps, the verdict is clear: Bennacer is no longer in the Lombard club’s plans. Several sources confirm that he is training away from the first team, with Milan Futuro. Even Algeria’s head coach, Vladimir Petković, has publicly voiced his concerns, describing a player “struggling” physically and without a real place at his club.
Trabzonspor tried their luck
According to Fabrizio Romano, a concrete offer did arrive on the table. Trabzonspor approached Milan for a loan or a permanent transfer. But the Italian journalist reveals that Bennacer turned it down: “No agreement with the AC Milan midfielder at this stage, but the proposal is still on the table.” A choice that leaves his future uncertain, with the Turkish transfer window remaining open until September 12.
A delicate situation
Today, Bennacer finds himself stuck: frozen out at Milan, gone from Marseille, and still hesitant about the opportunities available to him. His future should be decided in the coming days, but he looks more than ever to be at an impasse. As for Marseille’s supporters, they will likely be left with a bitter taste from this missed opportunity with a player who had hinted at real promise.
